On Monday, Gujarat Titans(GT) defeated Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) by 5 wickets at Wankhede Stadium in the tournament's fourth match.

Pacer Mohammed Shami delivered a blazing opening spell before Rahul Tewatia hit an unbeaten 40 to help Gujarat Titans upset Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in their first IPL encounter. Shami (3/25) bowled a powerful opening stint to deflate the Super Giants' top order. Deepak Hooda (55 off 41 balls) and Ayush Badoni (54 off 41 balls) both scored fiftys to help the Gujarat Titans reach 158 for six.

The GT were then led over the line by captain Hardik Pandya (33), all-rounder Tewatia (40 not out), Matthew Wade (30) and David Miller (30).

Along with Shami's three wickets, Varun Aaron (2/45) and Rashid Khan (1/27) also took two batters for the Titans. LSG's bowler of choice was Dushmantha Chameera (2/22).

Ayush Badoni, on the other hand, made an immediate mark with a spectacular half-century on his Indian Premier League debut.

Badoni stepped out to bat at number 6 for the LSG when things were not going well for his side. LSG lost four wickets for just 29 runs, and Badoni teamed up with Deepak Hooda to rescue his team from a dire scenario.

The 22-year-old batsman smashed 54 runs off 41 balls, including three sixes and four fours, to help his squad reach 158/6 in 20 overs. He was removed by Varun Aaron in the last over of the innings as he attempted to add to his team's score with another maximum.

Badoni stated he wasn't thinking about his half-century when he made his debut and only discovered it after attaining the milestone. He commented that he was not thinking about his fifty because he wasn't looking at the score. He added that he simply wanted to play his own game. Only until he achieved it did he realise he had a fifty.

Badoni went on to say that he was worried going into the contest, but that the first boundary gave him confidence. He didn’t manage to sleep the night before as he was too worried. He gained confidence after crossing the first boundary. On the board, he believed they had a good total.
