Tom Curran will miss the rest of the Sydney Sixers' Big Bash League(BBL) title defence.

Curran, who was projected to play a key part in the Sixers' pace attack alongside England teammate Chris Jordan, had collected six wickets in four matches in this season of the BBL. Apart from key contributions with the bat, he was the squad's leading wicket-taker in the 2019/20 trophy-winning season, taking 22 wickets in 14 games at an economy rate of 9.05.

The England allrounder has a bothersome hotspot on his back and will return to the UK for treatment as soon as possible.

Curran, who was projected to play a key part in the Sixers' pace attack alongside England teammate Chris Jordan, had collected six wickets in four matches in this season of the BBL.

Curran has appeared in all four of the Sixers' BBL 11 games after missing the entire previous season due to Covid-19 travel limitations. He joins an injured list that already includes Ben Manenti (neck) and Stephen O'Keefe (calf), both of whom are expected to miss Tuesday's match against Adelaide Strikers (December 21).

In the following days, the Sixers will look into injury backups for those who are out.

Skipper Moises Henriques told the media that they strives to be a community and a squad that welcomes challenges, but losing players of Curran’s and Manenti's calibre, as well as O’Keefe, would be a struggle for any team, and those men aren't easily replaced.

The captain explained that All three of those players play a huge part for them on and off the game, and their influence around the squad and on the ground will be remembered by everyone in the squad.

However, he commented that for them, having 18 match-ready players in their team is always a goal, and they view it as a chance for others in their team. He said that players like Lloyd Pope and Mickey Edwards have deserved more opportunities. However, due to the strength of their roster, they haven't been able to receive as many, so this will be a wonderful opportunity for them to earn a run of matches.

The skipper added that there's no need to worry because Ben Dwarshuis returned from injury this week, Jackson Bird should be coming back soon, and Sean Abbott is back after the birth of his daughter.
